Madrid has a few dope markets scattered around the city that have undergone recent renovations that have left them both beautiful and crowded with tourists. One, Mercado San Antón located in the poppin’ barrio called Chueca is one of my favorites. Opened as an open air market in the 19th century, the area remained active during the Spanish Civil War and continues to this day. The restored market has 3 levels and offers various “Puestos,” or stands offering good but pricey gourmet tapas. There is also a sweet “cultural space,” on the second floor which aims to “diffuse the arts through diverse forms expressions from young and emerging creators.”
