Untitled (Corridor, No. 2). White pencil on black paper.
This drawing came from revisiting an old photograph I took in 2008, which appeared on the LIFESTYLE on November 24, 2011 in a post titled “Recollections, Part 1”:

The next series of work I’m going to showcase lies deep in the archive trunk. Dusting off and bringin back some pieces from 2005 and 2006!
White pencil on black paper.
Storytelling started out as a black sheet of construction paper. In a reverse process, I used white pencil to pull the forms of the figure out of the black paper. Instead of drawing shadows and darks into a white background, I had to shade in reverse, drawing highlights out of the black background to create the figure.
White pencil on black paper is a counter-intuitive and challenging way to think about drawing – but I think it’s a dope method for engaging with the subject matter in a deeper way.
