Barcelona: From Romans to B-Boys

Barcelona. November 20th, 2011. Roman wall next to the Catedral de Barcelona. A group of young men are breakdancing in the square in front of the church. Next to the church is a Roman wall that dates from the first few centuries AD. Time flies and it is remarkable how much culture has passed through this spot.

I also wanted to take a picture from the perspective of the spectators. I think public street performance is framed by the populace enjoying the show. Perhaps this second picture invokes a more complete idea of what the scene was: A combination of public performance and audience.

Recollections, Part 1

Storytellin..

As a lot of yall know the LIFESTYLE first went ~live~ out of Brooklyn back in late August. Since then, we’ve been holdin down the Reflection and Response across the Atlantic from Brooklyn to Madrid. P’s experiences in Spain that he’s expressed through raw word, song, and rhyme have got me reminiscin’ somethin mean about my time living in Barcelona in 2008!! This week I’ll be pulling together a series of photos in honor of the good ol’ days around Spain and as a shoutout to my brother P.

The first photos in this series are from the Gothic Quarter (Barrio Gótico) in Barcelona.. Mean architecture stylo. Buildings and streets that speak. Hasta pronto!!

I hope everyone has a dope Thanksgiving weekend!!

Gran Via

Over the next week, I’ll be dippin a little further back in the archives to take a look at some work from 2009. Gran Via is part of a series of pieces I created based on photographs I took while studying in Barcelona in 2008. Stay tuned for more from this series…
